Well, this post is gonna be a quick one. In my previous post, I mentioned some of my favourite icon themes that I currently use. In this post I am going to tell you how to use them.
The first method, which I find to be the easiest one, will work ONLY on Ubuntu/Ubuntu-based systems. This method requires PPA provided you have found the PPA for the icon theme, like for nitrux icon theme. To install a theme, just add the PPA, update your repos and you can install the theme directly from the package manager. Not all the themes have PPA, so if the theme doesn’t have a PPA, you have to use one of the below mentioned methods.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ppa-name #Add the PPA
sudo apt-get update #Update your repositories
sudo apt-get install theme-name #Install the theme
Another way is that you download the theme in compressed format and use a utility like UbuntuTweak or MyUnity and install the theme from there.
One other way requires you to create a directory named .icons in your home directory. Download the theme and extract it inside ~/.icons directory. Just make sure that the directory that comes after extracting the compressed file must contain index.theme file.
Finally, to select the theme, you can use Ubuntu Tweak or Gnome Tweak tool to change the theme.
Warning: Install themes from third-party providers at your own risk.
